Fancher Creek Dam

The second largest of FMFCD’s flood control dams, Fancher Creek Dam is located furthest east of the urban area, roughly between Nees and Barstow, and Madsen and Riverbend Avenues.

About This Dam

  • Built in 1991
  • Intercepts flood flows from Fancher Creek, Hog Creek, and several unnamed foothill streams
  • Has a maximum capacity of 9,712 acre-feet
    • Only 1,783.81 acre-feet, or 18% of the total capacity was used during the record-breaking storms of December 2022, and January/February 2023

Interesting Fact

For most of the year, there is no water behind the earthen dam and the land is leased for cattle grazing.
